Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance
Past mission

The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD) is Israel’s premiere academic institution in the fields of creation, performance and the teaching of music and dance. JAMD was established as a conservatory in 1932 by a gifted pianist, Yocheved Dostrovsky-Kopernick. In 1947 it was upgraded to an institution of higher education. At present, JAMD is comprised of three institutions: the conservatory, the high school and the academy. The 840 students in the higher education institution study in our four faculties: Performing Arts (with its five departments – Strings, Wind & Percussion, Vocal, Keyboard, and Orchestral), Composition, Conducting & Music Education (2 departments), Cross-Disciplinary Music (4 departments: Composition, Instrumental, Vocal, Oriental Music) and Dance (departments: Dance, Movement and Choreography). The over 2,000 students and pupils of JAMD come from all walks of life: Jews and Arabs, seculars and religious, from every part of Israel and from over 30 countries around the world. The JAMD alumni perform in leading world orchestras and concert halls, opera and ballet houses and choreographic troupes, and teach in top music schools and universities.
